Ramsey Testing will be given to those interested. This position will start with training approximately 4 to 6 months at the Asphalt Plant and will be transferred to the Roofing Plant after that training is completed.
Maintenance Apprentice
Description:
The Maintenance Trainee is the entry level maintenance training position for INTERNAL candidates to learn the performance of both mechanical and light electrical maintenance duties via a combination of OJT and technical coursework. Persons in these roles will mentor under more senior maintenance technicians at various levels and will be given a time-based opportunity to learn and advance to the more senior craft roles in the Maintenance Department. Persons accepting these roles will be required to attend coursework off the clock to supplement their on the clock learning, which is designed to enable higher proficiency as well as scoring on the standardized Maintenance Aptitude Tests required at the higher level craft positions. Course work may be computer or classroom based at the company’s discretion.
This is a full time role that will report to the Maintenance Leader. This position will begin as an 8-hr day shift, then, upon qualification, will become a 12 hr night shift. Night shift may be required prior to completing the program to train with other shifts or to meet business needs.
Responsibilities:
Live and adhere to the Safety Culture of Zero Accidents, and ensure plant safety needs are given top priority, comply with all safety regulations, and maintain clean and organized work areas
Comply with all plant rules and corporate policies with regard to business conduct.
Regular attendance on site and ability to rotate varying shifts to learn from different trainers
~70% of time will be spent shadowing, learning and assisting higher level maintenance techs in the performance of industrial facilities mechanical duties including: troubleshooting, inspecting and repairing pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics, utility systems, piping systems, etc. Mechanical training will also include welding, machining, and fabrication.
~15% of time will be spent shadowing, learning and assisting higher level maintenance and electrical techs in the performance of industrial facilities electrical duties such as: calibration and troubleshooting instrumentation, controls, and electronics, motors and other electrical components, running wire, lighting, and other basic electrical work.
~10% of scheduled work time taking assigned courses or attending scheduled off-site courses and/or training seminars
~5% of time will be spent on administrative tasks such as TPM meetings, SAP documentation, etc.
Actively support and engage in plant TPM initiatives, housekeeping, and 5S programs
Will be expected to learn and utilize SAP for work order documentation
Perform other related duties consistent with the nature of the job as directed by the formen, or supervisor.
Upon being selected for this position, candidate will be expected to actively progress through the program at a reasonable pace. They must meet milestone objectives and accomplish Class promotions within 12-18 months up to a minimum of Class 2 level – failure to progress may result in disqualification from the maintenance department.

Job Requirements:
Education/Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must be legally able to work in the United States
Must read, write, and speak English
Perform basic arithmetic – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and work with fractions
Able to safety operate machine shop equipment and tools
Acceptable aptitude score to reasonably expect advancement within 12-18 months of meeting OJT/Educational requirements (requires basic knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical systems)
Physical Requirements
Must be drug and alcohol free
Able to routinely lift up to 40 lbs without assistance
Work in extreme hot/cold manufacturing environment
Able to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time
Able to work in cramped areas and enter confined spaces
Able to work at heights
Able to walk up and down ladders, stairs and platforms frequently
Able to safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – steel toed shoes, gloves, eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or face shields), and face masks as necessary
