The Medina Civil Service Commission announces an open, competitive examination for
the following classification:


Salary: $19.27-$20.36/hr.

NATURE OF WORK: To assist mechanics with routine and preventative maintenance. General shop duties to include but not limited to cleaning and washing vehicles, oil, lube and filters, and minor repairs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent; able to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical and mental ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Continuing possession of an Ohio Commercial Driver’s license required. Minimum of one year related experience.

NATURE OF EXAMINATION: The written test is weighted at 100% and will test for mechanical knowledge, safe work practices, mathematical skills, and employee relations. A passing grade is 70% or above.

VETERANS PREFERENCE: Any person who has completed service in the uniformed services and who has been honorably discharged from the uniformed services or transferred to the reserve with evidence of satisfactory service, may file a certificate of service or honorable discharge to receive an additional five points of credit, to be added to the earned passing grade resulting from the examination.

PROBATION: All persons appointed to permanent positions are subject to a probationary period of 120 days worked. The probationary period is an essential part of the examination process used for the effective adjustment of the employee and the elimination of any probationer whose performance fails to meet the required standards of work.

Employment is contingent on the passage of a drug/ alcohol test and a background check through the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation through fingerprint records.


Required Skills:
Perform routine/preventative maintenance on all board owned vehicles
Instruct all school bus drivers in the service and maintenance procedures for the vehicles
Repair, rotate and change school bus tires
Participate in the summer bus maintenance program to have all buses ready for annual Ohio Highway Patrol inspection
Communication, organization, problem solving skills and ability to work effectively with others
Training in proper care an storage of chemicals (OSHA/PERRAC training)
Knowledge of use of hand tools, power tools, torch, welder, other related equipment
Drive bus as needed

Full or Part Time:

Usually Monday- Friday hours to accommodate bus garage

$19.27-$20.36 hour
