\nJOB PURPOSE
\nThe responsibility of a Shop Mechanic is to inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair heavy equipment such as dump trucks, excavators, bulldozers, and tractor trailers to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation. This role includes performing routine preventive maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues, and completing timely repairs to minimize downtime. Shop Mechanics are also responsible for maintaining accurate service records, following safety protocols, ensuring all work meets company and regulatory standards, and collaborating with operators, supervisors, and parts personnel to prioritize repairs and support overall operational efficiency.<\/p>\n
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
\nPromotes safety, quality, efficiency, and core values
\nTroubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of heavy equipment, vehicles, and other construction equipment
\nDiagnose, repair, adjust, and modify components as needed
\nTroubleshoot mechanical issues quickly and efficiently, analytical ability to find solutions to difficult technical problems
\nReads, understands, and interprets operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings
\nEffectively uses diagnostic equipment to assist with troubleshooting and repairs
\nPositive interface with shop supervisors and field support personnel
\nPrepares proper documentation of work manually and electronically
\nMaintains conformity to safety requirements and other regulations
\nOccasional travel to jobsites and field locations

QUALIFICATIONS<\/p>\n
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
\nHigh School Diploma or equivalent
\nFormal mechanical training, apprenticeship, or certification program
\n2+ years of mechanical experience
\nCrane experience with CCO certification a plus<\/p>\n
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
\nBasic computer knowledge
\nBecome proficient in equipment manufacture\u2019s software
\nMicrosoft Office
\nProactive, self-motivated, problem solver
\nAbility to work independently, as well as on teams
\nMust have a strong diesel engine, hydraulic and electrical background
\nMust have existing (or purchase own) hand tools
\nMust have valid Driver\u2019s License Required; CDL license a plus
\nMust currently be in or willing to join IUOE Local 18<\/p>\n
POSITION TYPE\/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
\nThis is a full-time position, and the work week for employees is normally considered 40 hours Monday through Friday. Flexibility is required to support time-sensitive issues as they arise. However, greater emphasis is placed on meeting the responsibilities assigned to this position.<\/p>\n
WORK ENVIRONMENT
\nThe majority of the work is performed in a non-smoking shop environment. The work primarily takes place indoors. However, there might be occasional daily travel based on business needs.<\/p>\n
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
\nThe physical requirements must be met by an employee, with or without reasonable accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.<\/p>\n
Employees must have the ability to:
\nSit (or stand) for prolonged periods of time
\nOccasionally lift up to 50 pounds
\nOccasionally bend, twist, squat, and kneel
\nOccasionally walk up and down the stairs
\nDemonstrate visual acuity with or without corrected vision
\nDemonstrate hearing acuity with or without corrected hearing
\nMust be able to walk outdoor construction sites with uneven terrain and obstacles<\/p>\n
