Description:
\nThe estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects including highways, bridges, earthwork, utilities, site development and infrastructure improvements. This role analyzes plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs required to complete a project. The estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to develop competitive bids and support successful project execution.
\nResponsibilities include:
\n\u2022 Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
\n\u2022 Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, structures, paving, drainage, and other heavy civil work.
\n\u2022 Develop detailed cost estimates including labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and production rates.
\n\u2022 Prepare bid packages and compile final project estimates.
\n\u2022 Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
\n\u2022 Analyze bid risks, site conditions, logistics, and project constraints.
\n\u2022 Prepare and submit competitive bid proposals and supporting documentation.
\n\u2022 Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits when required.
\n\u2022 Develop unit pricing and production rate assumptions.
\n\u2022 Analyze historical cost data and project performance.
\n\u2022 Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to obtain accurate pricing.
\n\u2022 Assist with handoff meetings between estimating and project management teams after project award.
\n\u2022 Maintain organized estimate files, bid records, and cost databases.
\n\u2022 Track bid results and analyze variances between estimated and actual project costs.<\/p>\n
